Transvaginal ultrasound is safe and commonly performed during all stages of pregnancy, including the first trimester. If a heartbeat is seen, the risk for miscarriage at this stage is reduced to approximately 10%. This is sometimes called a nuchal translucency scan.\

**First Trimester / Dating Ultrasound** - It may show a very minor problem, or something that may get better on its own. The endometrium the lining of the uterus where the pregnancy will grow should appear thick and secretory.\
